Colegiul Național Octavian Goga, Sibiu

“Octavian Goga” National College is the largest school in Sibiu County, with over 100 teachers and 2000 pupils and students, from primary school up to the upper secondary level (ages 6-19). The students come mostly from urban areas, from the city of Sibiu and neighboring towns, but a considerable percentage come from rural areas.
In the secondary school level we offer both science and humanities courses, in areas such as mathematics and computer science, natural sciences, social sciences and philology. There is a bilingual programme in English for one philology class and one science class per level. We aim to equip our students with key competencies and intellectual abilities that will ensure their successful integration into society.
Regular course are taught in Romanian, but in the primary and lower secondary level we also have classes where the teaching languages are German and Hungarian (mother tongues for the local minority groups). The foreign languages studied in our school are English, German and Spanish.
Since 2004 the College has held the title of European School, an honorary title awarded by the Ministry of Education to a small number of Romanian schools which can demonstrate high academic achievement associated with involvement in EU projects and the promotion of European dimension of education.
A multitude of extracurricular activities take place throughout the school year. During the pandemic, we have adapted to the new context, collaborating with various institutions to carry out these activities online. We have an increasing number of students interested in STEM and have collaborated with European schools on this topic, trying to learn abouot environmental issues and sustainable growth.
Our school has been involved in Erasmus + strategic partnerships and in various exchanges with European schools. Our teachers have participated in courses abroad in the framework of Erasmus + Staff Mobility projects and have good communication skills, teamwork and digital skills. In addition, students and teachers have been involved in online international collaboration projects on the eTwinning platform. The experience of participating in these projects means we are open to new experiences and new learning opportunities.
The Erasmus + projects we have been involved in focused on current issues such as:
•raising awareness and preventing non-sustainable behaviour – “Sustainable Consumption and Production” (2015-2017)
•comparing traditions and accepting cultural diversity – UNION (2016-2018)
